Ballo Arthur Pita | Ten Sorry Tales

Ballo Arthur Pita | Ten Sorry Tales

Arthur Pita is celebrated for his surreal take on story-telling – combining dance, theatre, live music and song. There couldn’t be a more fitting end to our tenth anniversary year, than a performance from a company who were with us at our opening Gala in September 2009 and performed as part of the Jerwood DanceHouse opening season in February 2010, with God’s Garden. We have a very special relationship with the company – having commissioned every one of their productions, all of which have been performed here.
Ten Sorry Tales presents a collection of modern-day fables. From the child who sleeps for fifteen years, to the sinister sisters who prey on trespassers and the boy who brings butterflies back to life – Mick Jackson’s tales are by turns moving and gruesome, funny and dark. Beautifully eccentric and infused with gothic charm, Ten Sorry Tales will steal you away on a journey of curiosity.

In this new commission by DanceEast and Sadler’s Wells, Ten Sorry Tales follows the success of Pita’s critically-acclaimed Metamorphosis (The Linbury, Royal Opera House), The Little Match Girl (DanceEast, Sadler’s Wells), The World’s Greatest Show (DanceEast, Royal Opera House) and Stepmother/Stepfather (DanceEast, The Place).

DanceEast is so much more than a dance class facilitator and theatre venue. Flick through these pages to find out more about our diverse programme of activities. Artists and professionals are at the heart of our organisation and we are committed to supporting them in various ways; Associate Artist Scheme, Rural Retreats, CPD workshops, Advance Levels Classes, Choreographic Development Fund and much more. DanceEast has been running a range of innovative community projects for over thirty years. We work with a range of partners on local, national and international projects and enjoy introducing people to dance for the first time as much as developing and refining skills in more experienced dancers. We have a great team of hard-working, enthusiastic and DanceEast-loving staff.
